Vida Rabani, Iranian Journalist, Goes on Hunger Strike in Evin Prison

Vida Rabani, a journalist and political activist, along with Motahareh Ghonei, a student activist, both imprisoned in Evin Prison, have gone on a hunger strike in protest against the denial of medical services to two fellow inmates.

In an open letter announcing their hunger strike, Vida Rabani stated that since November 18, 2024, they have been protesting the deprivation of Narges Mohammadi, a human rights activist, and Verisheh Moradi, a political activist, who are also incarcerated in Evin Prison.

In this open letter, Rabani highlighted the unsanitary conditions in the women’s ward of Evin Prison, the lack of sufficient medical facilities in the prison’s clinic, and the denial of medical leave and adequate treatment for Narges Mohammadi and Verisheh Moradi. She and Motahareh Ghonei are on hunger strike to “address the situation of Narges and Verisheh and to advocate for the medical treatment of their fellow inmates.”

Vida Rabani is a journalist and political activist residing in Tehran. She is currently serving a three-year prison sentence imposed on her at Evin Prison.
