Vida Rabani Ends Hunger Strike Following Medical Leave Granted to Narges Mohammadi

Vida Rabani, a iranian journalist, and Motahareh Gonnei, a student activist, who had been on a hunger strike in protest against the denial of medical services to two fellow inmates, ended their strike after Narges Mohammadi was granted medical leave.

Hamidreza Amiri, Vida Rabani’s husband, announced the end of her hunger strike in a post on his Instagram page, stating: “Vida called from prison and said the order to halt Narges’s sentence has been communicated, and she will be released on medical leave today. She and Motahareh have also ended their strike.”

Mostafa Nili, Narges Mohammadi’s lawyer, also confirmed the news of his client’s medical leave on his X (formerly Twitter) account, stating: “Due to the forensic medical opinion, the Tehran prosecutor’s office has suspended the execution of Ms. Narges Mohammadi’s sentence for three weeks, and she has been released from prison.”

Earlier, Vida Rabani published an open letter announcing her and Motahareh Gonnei’s hunger strike, stating that since November 18, 2024, they had been on a hunger strike in protest against the denial of medical care to Narges Mohammadi, a human rights activist, and Vahideh Moradi, a political activist, both imprisoned in Evin Prison.
