Rouhollah Nakhaei was detained and transferred to Evin Prison on February 20, 2024 after reporting to the Office for the Implementation of Sentences.
Parto Borhanpour, Nakhaei’s lawyer, announced this news on her X account, stating: “The two-year prison sentence for Rouhollah Nakhaei has been enforced today, despite him being eligible for the 2021 announced amnesty.” This refers to the issuance of the “Amnesty and Reduction of Public Sentences” directive in February 2023. Following this directive, the cases of several citizens who were arrested or sentenced in connection with the “Women, Life, Freedom” protests were closed.
Rouhollah Nakhaei is one of the journalists detained in connection with the “Women, Life, Freedom” protests. In this case, he was sentenced by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran to two years for “assembly and collusion to act against national security,” and to seven months for “propaganda against the regime”. This sentence was later upheld by Branch 36 of the Tehran Court of Appeal. According to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, only the two-year sentence against this journalist is enforceable.
