Mostafa Nemati was imprisoned to serve a 40-month sentence

Mostafa Nemati, a journalist and economic analyst, was transferred to Evin Prison on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, to serve a 40-month prison sentence.

Mostafa Nemati is a journalist and economic analyst residing in Tehran. He has previously collaborated with Donya-e-Eqtesad newspaper and Tejarat-Farda magazine. Mr. Nemati was arrested by security forces on May 19, 2024, and transferred to Evin Prison. He spent three weeks in temporary detention and was ultimately released after posting bail of seven billion tomans.

On July 20, 2024, the court sentenced this journalist to a total of five years and four months in prison and a fine of 15 million tomans. In this case, Mostafa Nemati was sentenced to eight months in prison for “propaganda against the regime,” one year and four months in prison along with a 15 million tomans fine for “spreading falsehoods,” and three years and four months in prison for “insulting sacred beliefs.”

With the application of Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, 40 months of the issued prison sentence will be enforceable. The court identified the tweets published by Mostafa Nemati as evidence of the charges against him.
