Mehrdad Darva, Journalist, Sentenced to Imprisonment

The Revolutionary Court of Bandar Lengeh sentenced “Mehrdad Darva,” a journalist residing in Hormozgan province, to 100 days of punitive imprisonment and six months of suspended imprisonment.

The International Federation of Journalists announced that the Revolutionary Court of Bandar Lengeh sentenced Mehrdad Darva to six months of suspended imprisonment for “insulting the leadership” and to 100 days of punitive imprisonment for “propaganda against the regime.” In this case, this journalist faced four charges: propaganda against the regime, insulting the leadership, spreading falsehoods, and conspiracy to disrupt national security.

Mehrdad Darva is a journalist from the village of Podol in Bandar Lengeh County and a Sunni civil activist. In September 2022, during the “Women, Life, Freedom” protests, this journalist was arrested by security forces and was released on October 21, 2022, after spending approximately one month in prison, upon posting a bail of three billion tomans.
