Armed Individuals’ Attempt to Enter the Residence of an Iranian Journalist Fails

The threatening attempt by two armed individuals to enter the residence of Shir Ahmad Shirani, the editor-in-chief of the human rights organization Haal-Vash, was thwarted by the resistance of this Iranian journalist’s relatives.

Haal-Vash, which focuses on reporting human rights violations against the Baluch citizens, reported on its website about the attempt by two armed individuals to enter Shir Ahmad Shirani’s home. It noted that these armed individuals were affiliated with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Describing this alarming event, Haal-Vash wrote: “On the evening of Tuesday, December 10, 2024, two armed individuals, associated with the Islamic Republic, went to the residence of Shir Ahmad Shirani, the editor-in-chief of Haal-Vash. The residents inquired about the reason for their presence, but they evaded stating their true intentions and insisted that the person they were looking for was at home and needed to be seen. The residents, realizing the motives of these armed individuals, quickly took action to lock the front door. After an unsuccessful attempt to enter the house and access Mr. Shirani, and following the reaction and protest of the neighbors, they were compelled to leave the location.”

Shir Ahmad Shirani is the editor-in-chief of the human rights media outlet Haal-Vash. Along with Mohammad Saber Malek Reisi, he is one of the founders of this human rights organization. Both Shirani and Malek Reisi are former political prisoners from Baluchistan, each having spent over 10 years in Iranian prisons.

Haal-Vash is one of the most impactful media outlets in Iran concerning the reporting of human rights violations. The journalists and staff of this organization have repeatedly faced death threats and harassment from the security agencies of the Islamic Republic of Iran due to their publication of firsthand news and reports on events in the Sistan and Baluchistan province and the documentation of human rights violations against Baluch citizens.
