Ali (Abbas Ali) Moslehi, who was summoned last week to serve a prison sentence, suffered a stroke as a result of the psychological pressure from extralegal actions against this journalist and is currently hospitalized.
A close associate of Ali Moslehi informed DeFFI and stated: “Ali Moslehi suffered a stroke due to the psychological pressure from the heavy prison sentence issued against him, the deprivation of fair trial, and the seizure of his home by the judiciary. He is now hospitalized at Kargarnejad Hospital in Kashan.”
According to this source, Ali Moslehi’s house was sealed upon his arrest in July 2023 at the request of the Kashan prosecutor, and he is still deprived of access to his home. Due to his inability to enter his house, Ali Moslehi cannot access his identification documents, making it impossible for him to appeal the verdict of the first court.
Last week, Saeed Gholamian, Ali Moslehi’s lawyer, wrote on his account on X (formerly Twitter) that his client had been summoned on June 24, 2024, “to endure a prison sentence of three years and one month for a degree five crime at the criminal execution office in Kashan.”
According to a source who spoke with DeFFI, Ali Moslehi, after being informed of his summons to serve his sentence, “suffered a nervous breakdown and fainted at least three times in Tehran. After returning to Kashan, based on the diagnosis of a specialist doctor, he was immediately hospitalized in the neurology and psychiatry department of Kargarnejad Hospital.” This informed source noted that Ali Moslehi’s physical problems began after the prison sentence was issued against him, especially worsening following the summons to serve his sentence.
The source familiar with the situation mentioned that Ali Moslehi’s medical file and test results were submitted to the judicial authorities, but the court summoned him to serve his prison sentence without considering his health condition.
Based on the ruling issued in Branch 108 of the Criminal Court of Kashan, Ali Moslehi was sentenced to one year and three months in prison for “spreading falsehoods through computer systems” and three years and one month for “insulting sanctities”. With the application of Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, three years and one month of this ruling will be enforceable.
In another part of this case, Ali Moslehi was also sentenced by the Revolutionary Court of Kashan to one year and three months for “insulting the leadership” and seven months for “propaganda against the regime”. The Revolutionary Court suspended the issued sentence for five years.
Based on the ruling issued against Ali Moslehi, the instances of allegations against this journalist, which resulted in a total of six years and two months in prison, are tweets he published criticizing the inefficacy of the Islamic Republic’s governance.
Ali Moslehi was arrested on July 20, 2024, by security forces at his home in Kashan. The journalist spent 70 days in temporary detention in this case.
