Nasim Soltanbeigi was arrested on November 21, 2023, after visiting the first branch of the execution court of Evin Prosecutor’s Office, and was transferred to Evin Prison to serve her sentence. During her imprisonment, this social journalist was deprived of in-person visits and phone contact with her family at least twice.
Nasim Soltanbeigi was arrested at Imam Khomeini International Airport by IRGC intelligence agents on December 22, 2022 and taken to Ward 2-A in Evin Prison. After enduring 47 days of provisional detention, she was released on February 6, 2023 upon posting a bail of one billion tomans.
In August 2023, Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, sentenced Nasim Soltanbeigi to seven months and 16 days in prison for “propaganda against the regime”, and three years and six months in prison for “collusion and conspiracy aimed at actions against national security”. In this case, the journalist was also sentenced to a supplementary punishment of a two-year ban on membership in political and social groups and a two-year exit ban from the country. This sentence was upheld verbatim in September 2023 by Branch 36 of the Tehran Court of Appeal.
