Iranian Journalist Sentenced to Prison for Exposing Inhumane Treatment in Detention

The Second Criminal Court of Kerman County has sentenced Mansour Iranpour, a journalist from Jiroft, to 10 months in prison. The case was initiated against him following his disclosure of inhumane conditions imposed on him during his detention in Jiroft Prison.

According to the court ruling sent to Mansour Iranpour, Branch 101 of the Second Criminal Court of Kerman County convicted the journalist on charges of “spreading false information with the intent to disturb public opinion” under Article 746 of the Islamic Penal Code, sentencing him to a 10 months in prison.

Previously, Mansour Iranpour had released a video in which he reported being “tortured on the orders of a judge” during his detention and the unlawful confiscation of his personal belongings. In the video, he also highlighted being denied medical treatment and access to his medications for 19 days, as well as being subjected to degrading treatment, such as being transferred without shoes.

Mansour Iranpour is a journalist from Jiroft in Kerman Province. He has previously faced judicial and security harassment. According to a report by the Organization for the Defending Free Flow of Information (DeFFI), at least 95 Iranian journalists and media outlets faced judicial and security actions in the first six months of 2025. During this period, at least 46 new judicial cases were filed against journalists and media, at least six journalists experienced temporary detention, and in the trials held, Iranian journalists were collectively sentenced to 22 years and three months in prison and fines exceeding 50 million tomans.
