Hossein Yazdi, Iranian Media Activist, Sentenced to One Year in Prison

The Isfahan Province Court of Appeals sentenced Hossein Yazdi, the managing director of the “Mobin24” news outlet, to one year in prison along with additional penalties.

On July 2, 2025, Hossein Yazdi announced via a tweet on his personal account that his conviction was upheld by the Isfahan Court of Appeals. Previously, Branch One of the Isfahan Revolutionary Court had sentenced Yazdi to one year in prison on charges of “propaganda against the system.” The court also imposed additional penalties, including “a ban on leaving the country, a ban on activities in cyberspace, deprivation of social rights as stipulated in Article 26 of the Islamic Penal Code for two years, and the confiscation of his phone.”

Hossein Yazdi is a media activist and the managing director of the Mobin24 news outlet. In the previous year, he faced judicial and security pressures due to his media activities. According to the annual report of the Defending Free Flow of Information (DeFFI), in 2024, at least 256 journalists and media outlets in Iran faced judicial and security persecution. During that year, prison sentences were enforced against 11 journalists, at least 36 journalists were arrested, and journalists and media activists were collectively sentenced to 69 years and 10 months in prison, 110 lashes, and fines exceeding 200 million tomans.
