Today, Monday, May 26, 2025, at least six journalists are imprisoned in Iran; Nasrin Hasani in Bojnord prison, Jina Modares Gorji in Sanandaj prison, Ejedar Piri in Bandar Abbas Prison and Shirin Saeedi, Mostafa Nemati, and Reza Valizadeh in Evin prison, Tehran.
Nasrin Hosseini was transferred to prison in Bojnord on January 4, 2024, after appearing at Branch 2 of the Execution Court in Bojnord to serve her sentence. This journalist residing in Bojnord and the editor-in-chief of the weekly “Seyahat-e Sharq” is currently serving a sentence of two years and one month issued against her in three separate cases.
Shirin Saeedi was arrested and transferred to Evin Prison on December 23, 2023, after being summoned to the prosecutor’s office. This economic journalist was sentenced to five years in prison in a lower court.
Jina Modares Gorji a journalist living in Sanandaj and women’s rights activist, was arrested on Saturday, November 2, 2024, after visiting the Criminal Execution Branch in Sanandaj and has been transferred for a 16-month prison term.
Reza Valizadeh, a former Radio Farda reporter, was arrested shortly after returning to Iran by the security agencies of the Islamic Republic. The Iranian-American journalist has been sentenced to 10 years in prison along with additional penalties.
Mostafa Nemati, an economic journalist and researcher, is imprisoned in Evin Prison. He has been serving a sentence of 40 months since October 29, 2024.
azhdar Piri, the editor of the Monthly Journal of Research of Nations, lives in Karaj. Mr. Piri was detained on Sunday, May 4, 2025, and transferred to Bandar Abbas Central Prison to serve a one-year sentence.
