Entekhab Website Unblocked, Khabar Varzeshi Newspaper Suspends Publication, and Shahrvand Newspaper Ceases Operations

The news and analysis website Entekhab, which was blocked on the eleventh day of the military conflict between Iran and Israel, has been unblocked. Meanwhile, Khabar Varzeshi newspaper announced that it has temporarily halted its print publication due to the effects of the 12-day war. Additionally, Shahrvand newspaper was permanently shut down by the decision of the head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society.

Mizan, the official news agency of Iran’s Judiciary, reported on 23 June 2025, that the Entekhab website had been blocked. Mizan stated regarding the charges leading to the ban: “Due to Entekhab’s disregard for repeated warnings against publishing news that targets the psychological security of the public, the website was blocked a few hours ago.” However, the ban was lifted yesterday, making the website accessible to its audience once again.

Amid the ongoing war between Iran and Israel, Iran’s Judiciary initiated legal proceedings against several media outlets and journalists, issued warnings to a number of media organizations, and continued a widespread wave of arrests targeting citizens who expressed their opinions regarding the military conflict.

Following the end of the Iran-Israel war, Khabar Varzeshi issued a statement denying rumors of its permanent closure, stating: “The publication of Khabar Varzeshi will soon resume with the supply of paper, normalization of the distribution network, and resolution of air distribution issues.” The newspaper cited the impact of the 12-day Iran-Israel war as the reason for the temporary suspension of its print edition.

Concurrently, Shahrvand newspaper, affiliated with the Iranian Red Crescent Society, was permanently closed by the decision of the organization’s director, adding its name to the list of newspapers shut down in recent years.
