Abubakr Tohidi, an Iranian media activist, has been released from Zahedan prison

Abubakr Tohidi, a media activist and one of the cameramen for Makki Mosque in Zahedan, was released from Zahedan Central Prison on March 24, 2024 at the end of his sentence.

The news outlet Rasank, which reports on human rights violations against the Baluch citizens, shared a video of Abubakr Tohidi celebrating his freedom. He was released after enduring 139 days of imprisonment under inhumane conditions in Zahedan Central Prison.

Abubakr Tohidi (also known as Mirbaloochzehi) is a media activist and a cameraman for Makki Mosque in Zahedan. He was arrested by security forces on October 6, 2023 at a checkpoint within Zahedan city.

He endured 35 days of detention at the Intelligence Office’s holding facility in Zahedan before being transferred to the central prison of the city. During his detention, he was sentenced to six months in prison by the Revolutionary Court of Zahedan for “propaganda against the regime,” under Article 500 of the Islamic Penal Code.
