Mansour Iranpour, an Iranian journalist, Sentenced to Fine

Mansour Iranpour, a former political prisoner and journalist, has been ordered to pay seven million tomans in fines.

The 113th branch of the Criminal Court of Kerman found Mansour Iranpour guilty of “defamation,” and imposed a fine of seven million tomans. This ruling was issued following Iranpour’s complaint about the failure to return some of his personal belongings, including his watch and rings.

Mansour Iranpour is a journalist from Jiroft in Kerman Province. He has a history of convictions in media-related cases. In January 2020, the 101st branch of the Criminal Court of Jiroft sentenced him to one year in prison and a fine of 15 million tomans for “spreading falsehoods with the intent to disrupt public opinion,” according to Article 746 of the Islamic Penal Code. This sentence was later upheld in the Court of Appeals in Kerman Province. In June 2022, Iranpour was arrested and transferred to the city’s prison after being summoned to the Execution of Sentences Branch in Kerman to serve his sentence.
