The cases against Niloufar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi, who were detained during the “Women, Life, Freedom” protests in 2022, have been closed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On February 11, 2025, the website of Ham-Mihan newspaper and the Shargh network reported, based on separate announcements<\/a> from the lawyers of these journalists, that Niloufar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi fell under the “Amnesty and Reduction of Punishment” directive, leading to the closure of their cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, in the Tehran Provincial Court of Appeal, these journalists were each sentenced to five years in prison for the charge of “collusion and conspiracy with the aim of acting against national security”, and one year for the charge of “propaganda against the regime”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elahe Mohammadi<\/a> is a reporter for Ham-Mihan newspaper, and Niloufar Hamedi<\/a> is a reporter for Shargh newspaper. These journalists were arrested and tried for publishing reports on the circumstances surrounding the death of “Mahsa (Zhina) Amini” in the custody of the morality police in Tehran and the funeral ceremony of this young woman. Both Elahe Mohammadi and Niloufar Hamedi were arrested during the ongoing “Women, Life, Freedom” protests, experienced around 16 months of pretrial detention, and were ultimately sentenced to long prison terms in a case marked by ambiguity and lacking a fair trial.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
